The Men Like Me program aims to empower refugee and immigrant fathers through a peer-led model to foster healthy mindsets and promote positive masculinities.

About

The Men Like Me program, in partnership with White Ribbon, aims to empower refugee and immigrant men and boys, promoting positive masculinities and fostering allies in the effort to prevent and combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in their communities.

Over two years, the program will support two cohorts of refugee and immigrant fathers to actively engage with their families and communities. Each cohort will run over 30 weeks.

How will Men Like Me proactively address gender based violence (GBV)?

The Mothers Matter Centre will scale its Men Like Me violence campaign with the help of White Ribbon to prevent GBV and strengthen the GBV sector. The Men Like Me program will be developed, implemented, evaluated and scaled to strengthen the gender-based violence sector, focusing on identifying and scaling up successful practices. This program will reach multi-barrier immigrant and refugee men and boys, addressing isolation, fostering positive family relationships and masculinities, and reducing the stigma of accessing available support services.

The project will capture the perspectives of refugee and newcomer men and boys to design, develop, and deliver the Men Like Me program, its training sessions, resource guides, and other materials for participants. An external evaluator will assess the project and its outcomes. Insights and lessons learned will be disseminated through national webinars to enable the replication or further expansion of promising practices.

Components of the Men Like Me program include:

  • 2-hour synchronized online male allyship, leadership, and community engagement training sessions for refugee and immigrant fathers

  • Father-led parent child activity packages

  • Male Ally-Ship resource guides aimed at promoting healthy mindsets and positive parenting

  • Community engagement sessions

  • National root-cause webinars
