With Thanks and Welcome: A New Chapter for Our Board

At our recent Annual General Meeting, the Mothers Matter Canada Board of Directors marked a moment of transition: saying thank you to three dedicated members, welcoming two new voices to the table, and confirming the leadership that will guide us through the year ahead.

Our Board plays a vital role in making sure mothers stay at the centre of everything we do. When mothers thrive, children flourish and communities prosper, and that vision depends on the time, wisdom and care our directors give so generously.

Thank you to our outgoing Board members

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to three directors who are stepping down from the Board. Each has left a lasting mark on Mothers Matter Canada.

Julia Kim | Vice Chair and Chair of Strategic Planning

Julia helped shape the direction of our organization, guiding the strategic thinking that keeps our work focused and forward-looking. Her leadership as Vice Chair brought clarity and steady support to the Board. Julia has spent more than six years working alongside Mothers Matter Canada, and we are deeply grateful for her unwavering support of our mission.

Deanna Louth | Chair of the Finance Committee & Treasurer

Deanna's careful stewardship of our finances helped ensure that every dollar works hard for the mothers and families we serve. Her diligence strengthened the trust our funders and partners place in us. She has helped steer us through several year-end audits. Deanna has been on the board for almost six years and her presence will be missed.

Danielle Takacs | Director

Danielle brought insight, thoughtful questions and a genuine commitment to our mission to every Board conversation. Her dedication and commitment to Mothers Matter Canada will be missed. Over the past six years, Danielle has brought passion and energy to her cause, and we are so grateful to have had her advocate for us.

Julia, Deanna and Danielle: thank you for your generosity, your expertise and your belief in the power of mothers. We are so grateful.

Welcoming new and returning directors

We are delighted to welcome Kristina Lal and Adnan Shahid to the Board. They bring fresh perspectives and valuable experience, and we look forward to the energy they will add to our work with mothers and Program Delivery Partners across Canada.

We are also pleased to share that Lizon Chiasson-Foulem and Wendy Bryans have renewed their terms, and Stephanie Kirkland is continuing in her role. Their continued commitment brings important continuity to the Board, and we are grateful they have chosen to keep building with us.

Our Board leadership for the year ahead

  • Aanu Adeleye | Chair of the Board

  • Lizon Chiasson-Foulem | Vice Chair and Chair of the Governance Committee

  • Karen Cook | Chair of the Curriculum Oversight Committee

  • Bart Egnal | Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee

  • Soumaya Qureshi | Treasurer

We’re grateful for Aanu’s continued leadership as our Chair and extend our gratitude to Lizon, Bart and Soumaya as they step into new roles, and to Karen for her ongoing service.

Looking ahead

With a strong, committed Board in place, Mothers Matter Canada is ready for the year ahead. Together with our Program Delivery Partners, we will keep working to ensure that newcomer, refugee and Indigenous mothers across Canada have the support, connection and confidence to thrive.

Please join us in thanking our outgoing directors and warmly welcoming our new Board members.
