For the fifth year in a row, the Mothers Matter Centre launches its Adopt-a-Reader campaign in partnership with First Book Canada and supported by TD Bank Group. The campaign takes place over two weeks beginning on Family Day, February 18th, and concluding on March 4th.

More than 1,800 participating families

This year, 850 refugee, newcomer, and Indigenous families who are participating in the HIPPY program will reach out to more than 1,000 parents. All families will receive two new books and will then read together for 15 minutes each day. HIPPY parents support the adopted parents and demonstrate the importance of reading out loud to their children. They also provide the adopted parents with useful tips for developing early literacy skills. First Book Canada is providing 3,700 free books and TD Bank Group has provided funding.

The goal for this two-week period is a total of over 415,000 minutes of parents reading out loud to their children across the country.

We’re excited to see this nationwide celebration of reading unfold!
