The show must go on! We have rescheduled our 2020 A Vision of the Inclusion of Isolated Mothers in Canada conference to October 19-21, 2020, at the same location as before, SFU Harbour Centre in Vancouver, B.C.
What’s the purpose of this conference?
Social service organizations, development agencies, private corporations, and governments are all beginning to realize that the key to building healthy communities and economies is women’s equality. When the power of mothers is unleashed, the impacts on families, communities and economies are remarkable. Empowered and supported mothers raise healthier children, engage more in social and civic life, and participate actively in the economy.
This conference will amplify the voices of mothers who have overcome barriers to inclusion and explore the means of unleashing the power of isolated low-income mothers as a force for social, economic, and political change.
What does the program look like?
5 Keynotes sharing their observations, experiences, and research into unleashing the power of isolated mothers as a force for change as it relates to education and leadership; health, wellness, and safety; economic security; and social inclusion. Read their bios here.
20 Indigenous, Newcomer, Refugee, and Canadian Mothers telling their stories of how they have become agents of change to transform their lives by increasing their social and economic inclusion, gaining access to adequate health care, improving their food security, ensuring the success of their children in school, and more.
3 Plenary Sessions building upon the mothers’ stories and identifying important, usable strategies for change.
Who should attend?
Staff and board directors from social service agencies, family service programs, Indigenous organizations, newcomer settlement agencies, poverty agencies and women’s programs as well as government officials, students, mothers, and members of the media and academia.
What will participants gain?
